April 2004 Field Journal 4.7 Fuchsia Dell
I made a brief stop at the Fuchsia Dell this morning and had a few birds
(possibly) of interest:Acorn Woodpecker (heard only)
Cooper's Hawk
Golden-crowned Sparrow
Fox Sparrow
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Townsend's WarblerMany wintering birds are in more or less full song.
4.24 Muir Woods and Tennessee Valley
This morning, Alan Hopkins and I birded Muir Woods and Tennessee Valley. A (the?) BARRED OWL was heard (briefly) somewhere near the 2nd bridge. At Tennessee Valley, two heard-only ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHERS were of interst.BARRED OWL heard only at Muir Woods (Apr 24)

Today, I had at least three large swifts from the 17th floor of 50 Fremont Street. The following notes were taken without aid of binoculars:
- They soared alot, easily 50% of the time they were in view
- They were large, i.e. with the naked eye I could see a body and two wings from Mission Street when the birds were near the freeway
The vastly different flight style and obviously large size strong suggests B LACK SWIFT over either Vaux's or White-throated.
