August 2005 Field Journal 8.7 [SFBirds] Cliff House this afternoon
The light wasn't bad at the Cliff House until about 6:15 this afternoon.
After I found a flock of 4-5 ELEGANT TERNS feeding, I decided to spend some
time and found a Jaeger cruising through the feeding activity. It was
showing quite a bit of white at the base of the primaries, but I watched for
a minute or two until I could just see the pointed central rectrices of a
PARASITIC JAEGER. There was also a WHIMBREL flying around before it finally
headed north. (?)Crissy Field was fairly slow with only a LONG-BILLED CURLEW actively feeding
(and extracting something from the shore) being of note. It's amazing to me
how shorebirds can migrate missing all of their secondaries and inner
primaries.8.20 Crested Caracara
